The University of Jordan (UJ) has significantly strengthened its global academic presence, advancing in the QS World University Rankings by Subject for 2025, one of the most influential rankings evaluating academic programs worldwide, published annually by the QS organization. 

UJ is now ranked in 25 specialized fields, an increase of six from the previous year.  It also improved its rankings in 16 ranked subjects and across all five broad subject areas, reflecting the enhanced quality of its academic and research programs.

These results displayed UJ's unprecedented progress in Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Computer Science and Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, Tourism, Education, Library and Information Science, Business, and Languages.

In the globally ranked broad subject areas, UJ made significant progress. Engineering and Technology rose to 150th place globally, compared to 253rd in 2024. Social Sciences and Management Studies climbed to 155th globally, up from 227th. Arts and Humanities moved to 190th, up from 347th. Life Sciences and Medicine improved to 284th, previously ranked in the 401-450 range, while Natural Sciences advanced to the 401-450 range from 501-550.

The university achieved significant milestones in the subject rankings, with one of its programs listed among the top 50 universities globally, four subjects in the top 100, nine subjects in the top 200, 17 subjects in the top 300, 19 subjects in the top 400, and 23 subjects in the top 500 universities worldwide.

Specifically, within Arts and Humanities, UJ ranked 217th globally in Linguistics, 231st in English Language, and 289th in Modern Languages. In Social Sciences and Management, it achieved 83rd in Library and Information Science, 119th in Tourism, 147th in Education and Developmental Studies (a new entry), and 367th in Law (also a new entry). In Business subjects, the university ranked 185th in Accounting and Finance, 234th in Business and Management, and 505th in Economics.

In the Engineering and Technology fields, Computer Science and Information Systems ranked 100th globally, up from 149th. Civil Engineering ranked 229th, Electrical and Electronic Engineering 232nd, Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing 291st, and Chemical Engineering entered the ranking at 398th.

In Life Sciences and Medicine fields, UJ's Nursing program ranked 47th globally, advancing from the 51-100 range. Pharmacy and Pharmacology ranked 100th, while Medicine improved to 285th. Life Sciences ranked 481st, and Agriculture 429th.

In Natural Sciences, Mathematics rose to 119th globally from last year's 201-250 range. Chemistry improved its ranking to 439th. Environmental Sciences and Physics entered the global rankings for the first time, with 500th and 601st positions, respectively.

UJ President, Prof. Nathir Obeidat, expressed pride in this achievement, emphasizing its reflection of the university's commitment to academic and research excellence and its strategic vision for international prominence. He stressed that this progress resulted from ongoing efforts to develop educational programs, encourage scientific research and innovation, and create a supportive academic environment for faculty members and students.

The QS World University Rankings by Subject rely on five key criteria: academic reputation, employer reputation, citation per published paper in the subject, global research collaboration, and the H-index citation measure.

This achievement reflects the continued strengthening of UJ's position as a leading academic institution, regionally and globally, enhancing its international competitiveness and focusing on excellence in research, education, and sustainable development.

​A delegation representing the National Society for Pharmacy (NSCP), the Canadian regulatory body for the pharmacy profession, visited the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Jordan to explore licensing pathways for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians educated in Jordan. During their visit to the Faculty of Pharmacy, they met with the Vice Dean, Prof. Hatem Al-Khatib, and several faculty members. They also visited several universities to discuss curricula with pharmacy faculties, with the goal of comparing pharmacy education in Jordan with its Canadian counterpart.​

The Advisory Council of the Faculty of Pharmacy, formed based on the University of Jordan's standards, held its meeting.

The following discussion took place during the meeting: The vision of the University of Jordan and the Faculty of Pharmacy was reviewed, as were the various academic programs and how they relate to the labor market. The university's offerings and the Career Readiness Program were discussed.

The Council commended the university's approach.

The Dean and Chair of the Council also commended the role of the faculty's partners.

Finally, the college's future plan was presented.​

Within the activities of the “extracurricular” career preparation program for graduates of the School of Pharmacy, which was launched during the first semester of the academic year 2024/2025?

Dr. Rula Darwish, Dean of the school of Pharmacy, in the presence of Assistant Dean for Pharmaceutical Training Affairs, Ruba Tarawneh, honored a number of students who participated in the program.

 Dr. Rula explained to the students, as they are the first group to undergo this program that their feedback and comments are important and will be taken into consideration in order to develop and improve the program when it is presented as a subject for students in the coming semesters.

As part of the career readiness program for this semester, Dr. Yazan Ghawi, a pharmacist, presented a series of interactive workshops for graduate students over a period of two weeks, 8-19/12/2024. The topics covered varied and fell under soft skills, such as:

Different types of personalities Personality Styles

How to deal with each type Six hat theory through creative thinking and problem solving

Time management

Customer service and marketing-related skills.

He concluded his meetings with the graduating students with a special workshop on presentation skills, where the students were divided into groups from the beginning of the program and various topics were distributed to them, which they presented in the last meeting in the presence of a number of faculty members.

It is worth mentioning that Dr. Yazan Ghawi is one of our college graduates and has worked in the pharmaceutical field in various positions and is currently working as a certified trainer and business consultant. The College of Pharmacy, represented by its Dean, Prof. Dr. Rula Darwish, would like to thank Dr. Yazan Ghawi for his active participation in the Career Readiness Program and as a permanent partner of the college.

As part of the career readiness program for this semester, Dr. Hamza Al-Daqour, the pharmacist, owner and founder of the Hekaya Pharmacy chain, gave an interactive lecture to students expected to graduate today, Monday 12/23/2024. The lecture included a detailed explanation about community pharmacies and how to establish them. Pharmacist Al-Daqour used a scenario for a virtual city. The students' task was to establish a community pharmacy and provide various details related to the location, target group, expected workers, and develop a practical project model.

Dr. Hamza gave an overview of his career in the pharmaceutical business and encouraged students to experiment, learn, and create a nurturing environment for themselves. He also gave them advice to help them enter the arena of practical life.

At the end of the lecture, a distinctive and fruitful dialogue took place between the lecturer, Dr. Hamza, and the attending students. The College of Pharmacy, represented by its Dean, Prof. Dr. Rula Darwish, extends its thanks to the pharmacist, Dr. Hamza Al-Daqour, and Hekaya Pharmacies Company, as permanent and distinguished partners of the college.

As part of the Career Readiness Program for this semester, Dr. Enas Hassan, General Manager of the Pharmaceutical Research Unit (PRU), gave an interactive lecture to students expected today, Sunday 12/22/2024. The lecture included a detailed explanation of pharmaceutical research centers and the services they provide.

Dr. Enas also explained the different departments in the research centers and focused on the departments that employ graduates of the Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy specializations, the tasks of each department, and the requirements necessary to work in pharmaceutical research centers. It is worth noting that Dr. Enas provided advice for students to follow during job interviews. At the end of the lecture, a distinctive and fruitful dialogue took place between the lecturer, Dr. Enas Hassan, and the attending students. The Faculty of Pharmacy, represented by its Dean, Prof. Dr. Rula Darwish, extends its thanks to Dr. Enas Hassan and the Pharmaceutical Research Unit as permanent partners of the Faculty.

On Thursday 12/19/2024, the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Jordan was honored to host Professor Dr. Mamoun Al-Hamadsheh, one of the distinguished Jordanian scientists in the field of drug discovery.

During the lecture, Dr. Al-Hamadsheh shared his inspiring story about the development of the drug Attruby™ (Acoramidis), which was recently approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), to treat ATTR-CM amyloidosis, also known as “Alzheimer’s of the heart.”

Following the lecture, a dialogue took place between Dr. Mamoun and the audience, where the distinguished guest answered the audience’s questions and gave them advice on how to manage their future after completing their studies, perseverance, and the spirit of teamwork. The Dean of the College, Dr. Rula Darwish, honored Dr. Mamoun with a certificate in appreciation of the distinguished lecture he gave.

It is worth noting that the attendees included a number of faculty members and a group of college students from different years who expressed their pride in Dr. Al-Hamadsheh and considered him a role model for all Jordanians.​

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Jordan, Dr. Nazir Obeidat, the Faculty of Pharmacy launched the Career Readiness Program for the faculty’s students, in the presence of experts from the pharmaceutical sector, and representatives of pharmaceutical companies and factories. The program included the rehabilitation of the “Simulation Pharmacy”, which is an educational tool that contributes to enhancing students’ skills. The President of the University of Jordan said that universities must qualify their students for the labor market, and contribute directly to enhancing the competitiveness of graduates in the labor market, mastering their skills, and enabling them to succeed and innovate in their professional careers.

Obaidat stressed the importance of developing career readiness programs, which are a bridge between academic education and the labor market, as they contribute to developing students’ skills, guiding them professionally, increasing their employment opportunities, and building their self-confidence and abilities.

For her part, Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Dr. Rula Darwish, said that the Career Readiness Program came within the university’s commitment to preparing distinguished graduates qualified for the labor market. The College of Pharmacy has worked to design a comprehensive and distinguished program that takes into account the uniqueness of the diverse pharmacy profession and includes the skills and knowledge that graduates need to excel and increase employment opportunities in the local and international market.

Following the program launch activities, Obaidat inaugurated the “Simulation Pharmacy”, after its rehabilitation by Hekaya Pharmacy Company, which is a real model that simulates community pharmacies.

In a related context, the University of Jordan signed a joint cooperation agreement with Hekaya Pharmacy Company, under which the latter will train 25 male and female students per semester, provide various workshops that serve students after their graduation, support their employment opportunities, and participate in the career days held by the college.​

The School of Pharmacy, in cooperation with the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching, organized a workshop on how to prepare educational content for the purposes of digitizing materials within a digitization project carried out by the university.

The workshop aimed to introduce faculty members at the college to what is the project to digitize the educational content of academic subjects, the different types of videos used, and the models used to prepare the content. Examples of different subjects from university colleges were presented.

The workshop was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Rula Darwish, and a number of faculty and administrative staff members at the College.

The workshop was presented by Dr. Ali Al-Azzam, supervisor of the digitization project at the university, and two fellow content creators within the project.​

A workshop was held at the School of Pharmacy in cooperation with MSpharma, one of the college’s permanent partners, under the title:

"Navigating the Regulatory Landscape: A Career in Regulatory Affairs"

The workshop comes as part of the career readiness program for this semester. The workshop was presented by Pharmacist Dr. Dina Khalaf from MSpharma.

The workshop covered topics such as: defining the function of regulatory affairs and its importance, what are the basic tasks performed by a pharmacist working in regulatory affairs, how the drug registration process is carried out, and other related topics.

We thank MSpharma and all its crews. We also thank the students of the Field Training Committee for helping with the organization.​

On Thursday 14/11/2024, the workshop concluded at the School of Pharmacy, which was held over 3 consecutive days on the sidelines of the Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week organized by the World Health Organization. During his inspection visit to the school, His Excellency the University President held a dialogue with the students participating in the workshop on the importance of the topic of antimicrobial resistance and the importance of having legislation that regulates the process of dispensing antimicrobials.

His Excellency stressed in a dialogue held on the sidelines of the visit with the Dean of the School, Dr. Rula Darwish, and representatives of the World Health Organization, the importance of cooperation with the organization at various levels and investing the available capabilities in the best possible way in programs for the benefit of students and their professional guidance.

A workshop was held at the School of Pharmacy at the University of Jordan, in partnership with the World Health Organization, on “Design Thinking for Antimicrobial Resistance” for fifth- and sixth-year college students, on the occasion of World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week.

In a dialogue on the sidelines of the workshop with representatives of the World Health Organization in Jordan, the Dean, Dr. Rula Darwish, welcomed the guests from the World Health Organization and stressed the importance of this partnership with the organization at all levels. Dr. Darwish explained the importance of the issue of antimicrobial resistance, its catastrophic consequences, and the need for concerted efforts to raise awareness of this issue.

Dr. Rula stressed the primary role of students and graduates of the College of Pharmacy, not only in raising awareness of antibacterial resistance, but also in contributing to reducing it, as future pharmacists possess the information and skills that qualify them for this role.

The three-day workshop, in which about 20 students participate, aims to raise participants’ awareness and enhance their understanding of the problem of antimicrobial resistance and its impact on public health, and to empower the new generation of health care providers.​

The School of Pharmacy at the University of Jordan organized a career day for its students in which major pharmaceutical companies and medical warehouses in Jordan participated, in the presence of the Dean, Dr. Rula Darwish, the Vice Deans, and members of the faculty staff.

During her speech, Dr. Darwish praised our distinguished graduates, their scientific and research achievements, and their influential role in their career fields.  She also thanked the Assistant Dean for Alumni Affairs and the Alumni Committee, Dr. Hamza Al-Momani, for making this day a success. She also thanked the companies supporting this day, those responsible for carrying out its activities in the required manner that serves the college students, and the companies searching for distinguished students among the college's graduates.

The career day activities included lectures presented by representatives of the various medical and pharmaceutical sectors.

The career day also  included two workshops in two separate halls presented by Dr. Hazem Amayreh on success skills, and by Drs. Dina Alaa El-Din and Abeer Awad on how to write a CV, use LinkedIn and job interviews.

At the end of the career day's activities, Darwish presented honorary certificates to the participants in this day's activities.

​As part of the clinical training for Doctor of Pharmacy students/Respiratory Diseases major, an awareness activity was conducted for patients at the University of Jordan Hospital about asthma, its symptoms and the factors that increase its occurrence, in addition to spreading awareness about the annual influenza vaccine and the pneumococcal vaccine and their importance in reducing symptoms and complications resulting from infection. Awareness leaflets prepared by the students were distributed to patients.​

​As part of the clinical training for sixth-year PharmD students, the kidney team, under the supervision of Dr. Rima Hijazin and Pharmacist Nour Al-Taher, conducted an awareness activity at the University Model School for first-year secondary school students, in the presence of the school principal, Dr. Awad Al-Tarawneh, and under the supervision of teacher Ahmed Al-Tarawneh, about a healthy lifestyle and its impact on human health in the long term. The campaign title was: "Keep your life charged with healthy energy", as the aim of the activity was to educate students about some important topics that affect young people at this age and affect their health in the long term. The activity included several basic topics, including sleep and health, smoking and electronic cigarettes, energy drinks, a healthy eating system, and sports. The students highlighted the harms that some of these things cause to young people's health in the long term and the importance of maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle at all levels. The students showed great interaction with the activity and benefited greatly from the material provided to them. At the end of the activity, the students participated in a useful educational and awareness material, in addition to distributing some prizes to outstanding students.

The School of Pharmacy hosted Dr. Tahani Al-Khatib from the King Abdullah II School of Information Technology/Department of Computer Information Systems to present a workshop entitled: Generative AI; Tools & Ethical Considerations

The workshop aimed to introduce attendees to artificial intelligence tools and the practical applications of these tools, especially those related to the teaching process, various evaluation methods, and the duties of the faculty member. Dr. Al-Khatib discussed the ethical considerations for using artificial intelligence tools in general.

This lecture comes within the continuing education program held by the college and targets faculty and administrative members, as the workshop was attended by a number of faculty members and a group of clinical trainers. Everyone expressed the extent of benefit from the workshop and its direct relationship to the duties required of the attendees

​As part of the clinical training for sixth-year Doctor of Pharmacy students at the University of Jordan Hospital, the heart team educated and raised awareness among patients and their companions about high lipids, their causes and their effects on the heart, in addition to the most important tips for obtaining a diet that is beneficial for heart health and its effect in reducing the risk of heart disease and maintaining heart health. The students also distributed educational medical brochures to patients on the subject.​

​As part of the clinical training for sixth-year Doctor of Pharmacy students at the University of Jordan Hospital, the Hematology and Oncology team conducted a (Pink October) campaign to raise awareness about early screening for breast cancer and knowing the early symptoms of this type of cancer and who is most vulnerable, especially women. The students also distributed educational medical brochures to women in particular and to patients in general about this information.​

​As part of the clinical training for sixth-year PharmD students at the University of Jordan Hospital, the surgery team conducted an awareness activity in the pre-anesthesia clinic about "The effect of quitting tobacco on post-operative recovery". The campaign title was: "Do you have an operation? Start your recovery today, say goodbye to smoking". The aim of the activity was to educate patients who are about to undergo any surgery, especially smokers, about the necessity of quitting smoking even if it is one day before the surgery, as it has a positive effect on the effectiveness of medications, especially anesthesia medications, and reduces the risk of surgical wound infections, improves healing, and reduces the length of stay in the hospital. The activity also included an explanation of the means of quitting smoking and a reference to the clinics and centers available to help and support quitting smoking. Patients were provided with useful educational and awareness material.​

The Scientific Research Club for Pharmacy Students at the University of Jordan held the twelfth training workshop on the basics of scientific research, which lasted for six days from the twenty-eighth of September until the third of October 2024.

Speeches at the opening ceremony were delivered by the Dean of the School of Pharmacy, Prof. Rula Darwish, the Supervisor of the Scientific Research Club, the Deputy Dean, Prof. Hatem Al-Khatib, and the Dean of Scientific Research at the University of Jordan, Prof. Yasser Al-Rayyan.

The workshop included many interactive topics and activities, including introducing participants to scientific research methods and approaches, critical readings of scientific papers, and leading topics in the field of pharmacy such as the use of artificial intelligence and programming languages, among other lectures. Many prominent professors and academics in this field were also hosted, in addition to experts from institutions that support scientific research such as the Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation and the Hamdi Mango Center for Scientific Research, where they offered their services to the participants.​
