The University of Jordan (UJ) has signed a package of agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with leading healthcare and pharmaceutical partners to expand student training, support applied research and better align academic programmes with labour-market needs.

The agreements were signed at the University’s School of Pharmacy during an event titled “Strengthening Partnerships and Supporting Excellence,” attended by UJ vice presidents and several deans, along with representatives of the King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC), Dar Aldawa Development & Investment Co., the Jordanian Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Co. (JPM) and the Arab Drug Store Co. (ADS).

UJ president Prof. Nathir Obeidat said the School of Pharmacy is increasingly serving as a bridge between academia and the pharmaceutical sector, noting that collaboration and the exchange of expertise have become key drivers of innovation and development.

Dean of the School of Pharmacy Prof. Rula Darwish said the agreements reflect a long-term approach to building strategic partnerships that strengthen teaching, research and community engagement, while enhancing students’ practical training and employability.

Under the package, UJ signed cooperation agreements with Dar Aldawa and JPM focusing on training placements, coordination and supervision mechanisms, and joint work on applied studies. Additional activities will be implemented through separate written arrangements.

UJ also signed a training agreement with KHCC under a Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) pharmacy residency programme, setting out the programme structure, timelines and selection process in line with relevant accreditation requirements.

In addition, the School of Pharmacy signed an MoU with ADS to provide structured practical training for students due to graduate from the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) and Pharmacy programmes. The agreement sets out defined training cycles, hands-on experience and follow-up mechanisms to ensure learning objectives are met.

The partnerships will also support community-based training placements, alongside guest lectures and career-preparedness activities.

Following the signing ceremony, Obeidat inaugurated a new computer laboratory for postgraduate students at the School of Pharmacy. The facility was equipped with support from ADS as part of efforts to strengthen digital learning and postgraduate research.

Darwish added that the University is working with strategic partners on a proposed “4+1” programme model to give high-achieving students the opportunity to complete an advanced academic year or specialised training with partner institutions locally and internationally.

The event also highlighted student achievements in scientific and professional competitions in Jordan and abroad, and concluded with recognition of distinguished faculty members and students.

Under the patronage of the Dean of the College, Prof. Rula Darwish, the graduating students of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Jordan took the Pharmacy Oath. In the presence of the Faculty of Pharmacy administration and faculty members, they pledged before God to perform their duties with honesty, integrity, and dedication, and to serve their country to the fullest extent.

With the start of the final exams for the first semester/academic year 2025-2026, the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Jordan, Prof. Rula Darwish, accompanied by the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and Digital Transformation, Dr. Suha Al-Muhaisen, toured the final exam halls held today, Wednesday, January 14, 2026.

Dr. Darwish expressed her satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the exams and confirmed the college and its staff's complete readiness to ensure the exams were held under the best possible conditions, guaranteeing student comfort and psychological support to help them perform at their best and maintain their excellence. The dean emphasized the importance of the college being able to handle any unforeseen circumstances efficiently and effectively.​

The President of the University of Jordan, Dr. Nadhir Obeidat, reviewed the projects of the Faculty of Pharmacy students stemming from the Career Readiness Program, during a visit dedicated to following up on the program’s outputs and assessing the level of skills acquired by the students, especially the practical and professional skills related to the requirements of the labor market.

Obaidat listened to explanations given by the students about their projects, which covered various pharmaceutical sectors and came within multiple tracks aimed at developing soft skills, leadership skills, and teamwork, in addition to consolidating the concepts of leadership and innovation, through teamwork and applied learning.

Obaidat emphasized the university's pride in its distinguished students and in the program's reflection of a genuine qualitative change that keeps pace with technological development and focuses on project content that promotes the concepts of leadership and innovation. He also pointed to the importance of partnerships with supporting entities in developing the career readiness program to meet the requirements of the pharmaceutical sector.

For her part, the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Dr. Rula Darwish, confirmed that the career readiness program has begun to bear fruit in a tangible way, noting that the level of the submitted projects reflects the amount of effort made by the students and faculty members, and embodies the college’s vision of preparing graduates who possess integrated skills that combine academic knowledge and practical competence.

Darwish added that these projects represent the result of an integrated educational experience that contributes to shaping the student's professional personality and enhances his readiness to engage in the labor market efficiently and confidently, stressing the college's continued development of the program to keep pace with the requirements of the pharmaceutical sector at the local and regional levels.

It is noted that the projects are evaluated by an external specialized judging panel from various sectors, in addition to the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center, according to criteria that included the skills acquired, the level of cooperation within the team, and the quality of the presentation, the project's content and attractiveness, as well as body language and effective communication, were considered. The evaluation process was based on a comprehensive discussion of each project, allowing for constructive feedback that contributes to developing students' ideas and enhancing their learning.​

The Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Jordan, Prof. Rula Darwish, opened the graduation books for students expected to graduate in the first semester, in the presence of a number of department heads and assistant deans.

The Dean of the College expressed her delight at the graduation of a group of pharmacy students and wished them a promising and bright future filled with success and achievement.

The students expressed their joy at graduating, a joy shared by the Dean and several distinguished professors.

Today, the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Jordan held a consultative meeting with its industry partners, as part of strengthening the partnership with the labor market, and in line with the university's directions to develop its academic programs and link them to the actual needs of the health and pharmaceutical sector.

During the meeting, the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Dr. Rula Darwish, affirmed the college's pride in its ongoing cooperation with its partners, noting that this cooperation has tangibly contributed to the development of the college's programs and facilities, improving the quality of educational outcomes, and building qualified cadres capable of competing in the labor market.

Darwish gave an overview of the university and its academic standing, noting that it is one of the leading universities in the region, having ranked first locally and fourth in the Arab world according to the 2025 Arab University Rankings, in addition to receiving the King Abdullah II Award for Excellence, reflecting its academic and institutional leadership.

She also reviewed the achievements of the College of Pharmacy and its academic ranking, and its pioneering role as the first College of Pharmacy outside the United States to obtain ACPE accreditation, and the first in the region, in addition to the placement of qualifications for all the programs offered by the college, which confirms the quality of these programs and their outcomes.

Darwish touched on the most prominent achievements of the college, faculty members and students, and specialized scientific activities, noting the presence of ten honorary professors in the college who contribute to transferring global expertise to students and researchers.

She also pointed to the career readiness program launched by the college with the aim of bridging the gap between academic education and the requirements of the labor market, as the number of students in the college is about 2,700 male and female students, expressing the college's aspiration for the partners to be an active part of this program.

In a related context, the participants were briefed on the comprehensive project implemented by the university to rehabilitate the gardens and open spaces on campus, which enhances the quality of the educational environment, mental health, and academic and social well-being of students and the university community.

The participants in the meeting expressed their pride in the university and its College of Pharmacy, stressing that the college's academic achievements and international accreditations reflect an advanced level of quality and leadership at both the local and regional levels.

They praised the college's role in preparing graduates with high scientific and professional competence, capable of meeting the needs of the labor market and keeping pace with developments in the pharmaceutical sector, appreciating the college's approach based on genuine partnership with the private sector, and its keenness to involve them in developing academic programs and career readiness initiatives.

The outstanding administrative employee of the School of Pharmacy at the University of Jordan was honored for the year 2025.

Pharmacist Nour Al-Taher and Ms. Maysoun Atta were awarded the Outstanding Administrative Employee Award for this year. Through their continuous work and high level of commitment, they have proven to be vital elements in the daily operations of the college. They also demonstrated a high level of professionalism in handling various tasks, which has significantly contributed to improving the overall performance of the college.​

Sixth-year Doctor of Pharmacy students at the University of Jordan conducted an awareness activity at the University of Jordan Hospital entitled "Painkillers... Temporary Relief That Could Cost You Your Kidneys," under the supervision of the clinical training staff in the Nephrology Department: Dr. Rima Hijazin, Dr. Nour Al-Taher, and Dr. Latifa Hindouma, in cooperation with the hospital's kidney clinics, represented by kidney and transplant consultants Dr. Samiha Al-Shala and Dr. Izzat Al-Awa, and with the participation of fourth-year medical students.

This activity, aimed at patients and visitors of the hospital, comes with the goal of raising awareness of the health risks associated with the indiscriminate or excessive use of painkillers, and highlighting their potential impact on kidney function, especially among patients with chronic diseases and the elderly.

The activity also included the distribution of awareness brochures containing basic information and practical guidelines on the safe use of painkillers, and tips for maintaining kidney health and preventing drug-related harm, in a step that reflects the community role of health students and the importance of their participation in promoting health awareness and prevention.​

A workshop entitled “Digital Design Meets Pharmaceutical Science: Empowering Pharmacists with 3D Design and Printing" was held at the Faculty of Pharmacy.

Directed at faculty members, researchers, and undergraduate and graduate students from various years, the presentation was given by Dr. Abdullah Al-Jubouri, a Master's student specializing in Pharmaceutical Sciences. In it, he introduced the various applications used to produce models. And a discussion of how to use these applications and produce models that may be used to replace various parts of equipment used in research laboratories.

On Thursday, the College of Pharmacy at the University of Jordan held an OSCE  exam for sixth-year Doctor of Pharmacy students in the clinical specialties: (Internal Medicine 1, Internal Medicine 2). Faculty members and clinical training staff from the Department of Biopharmaceutical and Clinical Pharmacy participated in the exam as assessors and representatives.

The exam included several interactive stations designed to achieve the learning competencies listed in the program.

The Dean of the College, accompanied by the Assistant Dean for Hospital Affairs, conducted an inspection tour to ensure the smooth running of the exam. The students expressed their satisfaction with the exam process.

The Advisory Council of the School of Pharmacy/University of Jordan held a meeting today, chaired by Prof. Rula Darwish, Dean of the Faculty, and attended by the Vice Dean and members of the Faculty's Advisory Council.

During the meeting, the work plan for the Faculty of Pharmacy for the current year was discussed, as well as the comprehensive plan program - dividing the University of Jordan into zones (ZONING) launched by the University of Jordan, which aims to rehabilitate the eastern facade of the university, improve pedestrian and vehicle traffic, plan open spaces and gardens, and achieve environmental sustainability / implementing water harvesting systems.

The job readiness program, placement of pharmacy college programs, Jordanian accreditation, and internal evaluation of the pharmacy college, which is one of the top colleges in the University of Jordan, were also discussed.

The strategic plan and its eight objectives were discussed, including goals and performance indicators, among them the requirements for the King Abdullah II Award for Public Universities, which the University of Jordan recently received.

During the meeting, a short video was shown about the college's new laboratories (the intravenous solutions preparation laboratory).

 

At the end of the meeting, the dean and council members toured the college facilities to explore the possibility of implementing the zoning plan.​

The School of Pharmacy at the University of Jordan, in cooperation with the Anti-Narcotics Department, organized an awareness lecture.

The lecture was presented by Captain Waleed Al-Quraan, who spoke about the vital role of youth in protecting society from threats to its security and stability. He also addressed the most prominent challenges facing young people, ways to prevent negative behaviors, and the role of awareness and national belonging in safeguarding the nation's security.​

Marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the University of Jordan (UJ), through its School of Pharmacy and in collaboration with the King Hussein Cancer Foundation and Center (KHCF/KHCC), organized a breast cancer awareness walk to promote early detection and foster a culture of preventive health across the university community.

Vice President for Quality & Local Accreditation Prof. Amira Masri, representing UJ President Prof. Nathir Obeidat, inaugurated the event, which started in front of the School of Pharmacy and proceeded toward the university’s iconic Clock Tower. The walk was attended by representatives from KHCC, several deans, faculty and administrative staff, and a large number of students.

 Masri said the event reflects the strategic partnership between UJ and KHCC and highlights the university’s humanitarian commitment to supporting national health and disease-prevention initiatives.

Dean of the School of Pharmacy Prof. Rula Darwish noted that the initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and forms part of the school’s community engagement efforts. She explained that around fifty students were trained as health educators to raise awareness among more than 50,000 students and staff members about the importance of early screening and preventive health practices.

Representative of the Jordan Breast Cancer Program (JBCP) at KHCF Maryam Abu Khalaf expressed her appreciation to the university for its continued support of the program and praised the enthusiasm and participation of UJ students throughout the event.

The event witnessed remarkable participation, with attendees dressed in pink and sharing educational materials. It concluded with the unveiling of a large pink ribbon mural carrying messages of solidarity and hope. The School of Pharmacy and KHCC reaffirmed their shared commitment to expanding cooperation in future awareness campaigns and joint health education initiatives.​

The University of Jordan (UJ) has been granted the Institutional Quality Assurance Certificate for a four-year period by the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission for Higher Education Institutions (AQACHEI), following the university’s fulfillment of all accreditation standards under decision No. (10/2025).

This milestone reflects UJ’s continued commitment to academic and administrative excellence, and its vision to serve as a national model in education, research, and community engagement.

UJ President Prof. Nathir Obeidat affirmed that this achievement underscores the university’s unwavering dedication to fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement. He added that the university will continue to strengthen its programs and systems to ensure sustainable excellence across all domains.

Vice President for Quality & Local Accreditation Prof. Amira Taher Masri emphasized that attaining the Institutional Quality Assurance Certificate represents the collective effort of all university units and faculties, reflecting UJ’s consistent pursuit of development and adherence to the Commission’s standards.

In addition, the Commission also recognized the School of Agriculture, the King Abdullah II School of Information Technology, the School of Pharmacy, and the School of Educational Sciences for their excellence in academic and institutional performance.​

The 2025 International Conference of the Faculty of Pharmacy was held today at the University of Jordan, under the title "Shaping the Future of Pharmacy: Enabling Education, Training, Innovation, and Integrating Artificial Intelligence," with broad participation from scientists, experts, and academics from various local and international universities and pharmaceutical sector institutions.

This year's conference highlights the future of the pharmacy profession and how innovation, continuous training, and modern technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, can transform this vital sector and open new horizons of excellence, influence, and positive change in the healthcare sector for students and professionals.

During his opening remarks at the conference, attended by the university's vice presidents, faculty and staff, and students, University President Dr. Nazir Obeidat said that the ongoing digital revolution in the fields of artificial intelligence, data analysis, the Internet of Things, and quantum computing represents a unique opportunity to transform the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries.

He emphasized that universities must be at the heart of the scene, by developing curricula, supporting researchers, and reformulating scientific research questions to be more closely aligned with patient needs and more focused on the realistic challenges of drug discovery, with the need to invest in designing accurate algorithms and predictive models that contribute to accurately identifying therapeutic targets and verifying them efficiently.

Meanwhile, the Dean of the College and Chair of the Conference, Dr. Rula Darwish, explained that the conference comes at a critical time, as the health sector is facing unprecedented challenges that require a reconsideration of teaching methods and practice approaches, and a renewal of pharmaceutical thought in line with the requirements of the next phase. She noted that the conference title reflects the College's commitment as a pioneer and believer in sustainable development.

 

 

Darwish pointed to a number of achievements that the college is proud of and has accomplished over the past years, including: being ranked among the top 100 pharmacy colleges worldwide according to the QS rankings, launching the Employment Readiness Program for the first time as part of its academic plans, and expanding its research partnerships with local and international institutions, particularly in the fields of artificial intelligence and nanotechnology, biopharmaceuticals, and the establishment of a PhD program in clinical pharmacy and a laboratory, the first of its kind locally, concerned with intravenous solutions. She noted that she is close to equipping an integrated computer laboratory dedicated to postgraduate studies.

 

The conference agenda included a series of qualitative scientific lectures that addressed topics related to pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmaceutical product chemistry, pharmacology, industrial pharmacy, clinical pharmacy, and drug economics, as well as specialized workshops that combined visual communication technologies and direct attendance, designed to keep pace with the rapid developments in the profession. Reflecting the practical nature of the conference, it discusses topics such as: data analysis, the application of artificial intelligence in the practice of pharmacy, practical tools in higher education, career paths in business and consulting, and other topics.

In support of student initiatives that have become an integral part of its mission, the College of Pharmacy announced, within the conference activities, the launch of the first student competition, and its hosting of (21) teams from various colleges of pharmacy across the Kingdom, distributed among (teams for the Doctor of Pharmacy competition, and (13) teams for the Pharmacy competition, with a total of (84) male and female students, It has become an annual tradition that reinforces the institutional identity and highlights student creativity. The 3-Minute Thesis Competition, targeting graduate students in colleges of pharmacy nationwide, was also launched after its success and distinction during the college's Honorary Professors Program, which was praised by those who attended.

On the sidelines of the conference, An exhibition in which major companies, warehouses, and factories specialized in the pharmaceutical industry participated to display their medical and pharmaceutical products and services, and another exhibition was full of scientific posters that explained in a simplified manner research projects of students in the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. And postgraduate studies from various colleges of pharmacy spread across Jordanian universities.​

In a landmark achievement for higher education in Jordan, the University of Jordan (UJ) has made a significant leap forward in the QS World University Rankings 2026 earning its place at 324th globally. This remarkable advancement, climbing 44 positions from the previous year, not only affirms the university’s steady progress but also reflects a broader vision rooted in academic excellence, research innovation, and international collaboration.

For decades UJ has stood as a pillar of higher education in the region. This latest recognition reaffirms its role as a national leader and regional academic center, now turning international attention to its accomplishments. The QS ranking is one of the most prestigious global assessments of higher education institutions that evaluates universities across key dimensions, such as academic reputation, employability, research strength, and international outlook.

UJ President, Prof. Nathir Obeidat, described the new ranking as a national achievement and a symbol of collective dedication." We proudly dedicate this milestone to His Majesty King Abdullah II His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein and to the Jordanian people." he said.

Obeidat says it is a result of years of hard work thoughtful planning and an unwavering commitment to excellence, "We believe in the power of education to drive change and the world is beginning to take notice," he added.

The QS 2026 rankings paint a picture of a university on the rise across every major metric. In academic reputation; the university climbed to 239th globally marking a 15 percent improvement, a sign that UJ’s schools and programs are increasingly recognized and respected by academic peers around the world. Equally impressive was the university’s performance in employer reputation where it ranked 194th globally, a 13.1 percent improvement from last year reflecting the high regard employers hold for UJ graduates.

Perhaps most striking was the university’s success in the Employment Outcomes indicator, where it ranked 105th globally demonstrating that its graduates are not only well educated but also highly prepared for the challenges of the modern job market. This achievement aligns with the university’s ongoing efforts to link academic programs with real world skills and professional development.

The university’s international standing was further solidified by a 21 percent increase in international student ratio placing it 309th worldwide in this metric Such growth signals UJ’s transformation into a truly global campus welcoming diverse and internationally engaged In research, the university saw its International Research Network ranking rise to 543rd with a corresponding 2.2 percent improvement. Additionally, citation rate rose by 3.8 percent underscoring the growing influence and reach of UJ’s research output.

According to Prof. Faleh Sawair, Vice President for International Rankings and Accreditation, these accomplishments are the product of deliberate long-term strategy. "We have invested in our people in modern infrastructure and in global partnerships," he explained. "But most importantly we have invested in purpose; our mission is to serve Jordan, the region, and the world through knowledge," he concluded.

This year’s QS success is more than a number; it is a statement that the University of Jordan is not standing still. It is evolving, competing, and earning its status among the world’s leading institutions.

As the university looks to the future, this recognition marks not an endpoint but a beginning. It affirms that excellence is not a destination but a continuous journey one that UJ is committed to pursuing with determination, innovation, and pride.​
