The department of pharmaceutical sciences is considered the backbone for the faculty of Pharmacy. The department holds more than 6 teaching laboratories and 4 research ones.

This Department offers many courses for Bachelor and PharmD degrees in three main areas; Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Analysis and Phytochemistry. In addition, since the establishment of the Master degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 1997/1998, the department has been actively involved in launching and teaching many courses within this postgraduate program. Furthermore, In 2005, the department has launched a new PhD program in Medicinal Chemistry and Drug Discovery.

 

As part of the faculty of pharmacy, the department of pharmaceutical sciences aims to:

  • deliver highly qualified pharmacists to the local and international market,

  • improve the quality of health care sector in Jordan,

  • boost local industry collaboration,

  • serve the local community through direct collaboration with the local industry, the Jordanian Pharmaceutical Association (JPA) and Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA).

Our vision also extends to improve the quantity and quality of scientific research and higher education in Jordan.

The department aims to become a center of excellence in teaching, training and research in pharmaceutics and pharmaceutical technology through employing conceptual learning, modern methodologies and advanced research techniques.

The Department of Biopharmaceutics and Clinical Pharmacy is both an academic department within the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Jordan and a service unit within the University of Jordan Hospital (JUH).
 
This department has three subsections:
 
  1. Biopharmaceutics and clinical biochemistry
  2. Pharmacy practice
  3. Pharmacy administration
 
The staff members at this Department contribute to the excellence of the Faculty of Pharmacy and University through effective service at the Faculty of Pharmacy, community, and public levels in areas of their expertise that ultimately benefit the society.
 
Members of the department, continue a tradition of exemplary service through the following activities:
 
  • Educate and train Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) students, and Masters of clinical pharmacy students.
  • Provide innovative pharmacy services in both the inpatient and ambulatory setting JUH.
  • Conduct clinical and basic research, and disseminate results in the biomedical literature.
  • Advocate professional roles for pharmacists on national and international levels.
  • Collaborate with other health science professionals in teaching, service and research activities.
  • Serve the public through presentations to professional audiences and service to professional societies.
 
The Department of Biopharmaceutical Sciences is growing substantially with the recruitment of faculty members with research strengths in the new fields of pharmacy such as, but not limited to, stem cell research, novel methods of targeted drug delivery, cancer and carcinogenesis, cell and molecular pharmacology and pharmacogenomics. We endeavor to become a preeminent department in Jordan, widely recognized for contributions in scholarship and research, educational and training programs.

The department aims to provide competent and skilled pharmacists in the field of pharmaceutical technology and industry.

1. Develop and continuously revise a balanced academic and course plan to maintain quality and relevance.
2. Develop and maintain diverse and complementary academic and research staff.

4. Establish and maintain an effective partnership with the local pharmaceutical industry and regulatory agencies.
